Last night Kris and I headed up to our LGS and ran into some old friends who were playing Epic. Of course seeing being played in the wild is always thrilling as it is one my favorite games and is largely responsible for my miniature wargaming ‘addiction’.

One of our buddies, Ryan, was sporting a 'Nid army and this got me thinking about my own Tyranids.

I’ve been debating on how to base my various Epic armies and I’ve been wanting to do something extra special for the bugs. So today I sat down to do some figuring and planning and I’ve decided to mount the Tyranid models on hexagon shaped bases. Of course, this is not a completely original idea as others have done this before. However, I think I am going to use a slightly larger bases size (25mm wide) and fit a full 5 models on each base. I know some players use fewer models to make more bases but I like the look of the full on swarm. And, I’m not hurting for miniatures so these are a plans I drew up.

  1. First image shows the 9 bases I will make a silicon mold for
  2. Second shows the effect I’m trying to get my swarms to have

Wish me luck, I’m off to find a 6mm hole saw for my dremel.
