Skitarii vanguard squads 2 and 3 and ranger squad 1 all primed and getting base coats under the robes before final assembly. I chose to assemble the upper and lower figures separately to allow easy access under the robes. I probably should have simply used bluetac to hold the models instead of gluing to the base… But, alas that’s how I did it. I have a white under coat on most models but a layer of my choose color, and some work on the legs and I’ll be good to go. I used a numbering/lettering system to make sure I can easily match the legs and bodies back up since the Skitarii kits are pretty specific in their construction. Old skool GW squishy tray FTW!
After selecting 750 points, I decided to up date the bases and make the group look a little nicer. Unfortunately my quick camera phone snaps don’t really do the weathering and basic justice. Aww well.
Grimdark matte backgrounds
I’m looking for a set of matte backgrounds for photographing miniature war-games; specifically Warhammer 40k, but also Epic Armageddon and other generic scifi/generic settings would also be interesting. I really like the look of of the model photos in Games Workshops codexes and Visions where the model porn is shown up close and details but you can see some fuzzy backgrounds that tie in with the setting.
As seen in this photo:
That background is clearly a painting/print sitting at the edge of the board but it gives a really nice environmental feel. Surely someone has already created a set of generic backgrounds for model builders (non-wargaming) but I haven’t been able to find anything other than random textures.
Has anyone seen backgrounds from the right angle like this available?
Mustering the imperial guard! Getting ready to build a small 750 army to defend the imperium of man.
New custom dice delivered for the Sons of Dorn and Mechanicum. I could think of other color combinations I would have preferred but custom dice apparently have some limitations on coloring from Chessex, go figure.
I chose to simply put a logo on the “6” side of the dice. All in all they came out nice I think, but I do plan to try out another companies custom options to get other colors.
UPS was kind enough to hold a package for the past month and I was able to pick up my copy of Horus Hersey book 3: extermination. This is the completion and aftermath if the dropsite mass massacre. As anticipated my beloved Sons if Dorn make an appearance with stats for Rogal himself.
For a little bit of variety I got the first squad of sentinels ready for basing and weathering. These guys don’t have too many tattoos on them but a few little touches to unify them with the rest of the army.
I got the motor pool for the first platoon all tatted up and ready for weathering. I tried to vary the look a little bit to personalize each one - yet keep a consistent theme going on. Pretty happy with the decal work (which i put on while constantly distracted by watching Attack on Titan)
Wheeled conversion kit for Imperial Guard Chimera
Wheeled Conversion Kit for Chimera
Since J Marcus Studios has posted photos of my Steel Legion and subsequently I’ve started showing some of the weathering effects and basing I’m doing to the models; people have asked about where to get the kits to make wheeled chimeras. Well if you want wheeled chimeras you can get them from a small Texas (and now infamous) company called Chapterhouse Studios.
Death Guard rhinos!
My winter project has been to assemble a 2000 point Death Gard army to send to J Marcus Studios to have painted.
These are getting close to done. They still need turrets and tracks, and all the little details.
These rhinos have heresy era front plates and doors and one of the backdating kits from forgeworld.
I have mixed and matched for variety. Enjoy!
